With the summer months underway (well supposed to be-still not sen any real signs of summer in the UK yet) I thought I would share with you a few beauty hacks to make your summer a little less stressful and a bit more enjoyable.
My first hack is really trivial and simple but we all sometimes forget about it. To prevent your mascara, bottom and top lashes, from smudging every where, wear water proof mascara. It is really that simple and easy and your lashes will maintain looking great throughout the whole day!
My next one is for those of you who want an alternative to foundation and feel that it just feels too heavy on your skin for the summer months. I personally don’t have this problem because as I mentioned in my everyday makeup routine, I only wear foundation on very special occasions so my routine doesn’t change too much in the summer. However, for those of you do where foundation swap it for either a BB or CC cream. These will do the same job, be very moisturising for your skin which is what you need, particularly in the summer months, and provide coverage. They also have SPF in too which is essential in summer. Alternatively to that just use your concealer and powder as your base makeup.
My next hack is a DIY salt spray. Everybody wants those perfect beachy waves that makes them look like they have been to the beach, and yes of course I know you can buy one but there is no need when you can make one at home with things you probably already have! All you need is some warm water, salt, hair gel and a spray bottle. Then just mix all these together in your spray bottle and shake thoroughly, spray on your hair and scrunch it with your hand and you’re good to go with beautiful beachy waves.
Everyone’s bug bear in the summer are flies. You always feel like you cannot wear shorts or skirts because of been bitten to death.Of course you can spray yourself with bug repellent, however, if you don’t have any of that you can use your dryer sheets and rub them all over you and your clothes and they prevent flies from coming near you. That way you can go out and wear shorts without being bitten a million times. Also dryer sheets can also remove all of that unwanted static in your hair too. Again simply rub these over your head and you’re good to go.
I guess this one isn’t really a hack but it is an essential. Drinking plenty of water throughout the summer months, especially, is vitally important to keeping hydrated and your skin looking radiant and healthy. (In that case I guess it is a beauty hack!) Instead of drinking just plain water trying slicing up a lemon or cucumber and add that to your water. Not only does it taste amazing it has great benefits for your body too! They boost your immune system, are a great source of potassium and the antioxidants helps reduce blemishes. The list goes on really!
Another summer essential is dry shampoo. No only does it revitalize your dull second/third day hair it can also be sprayed into your favourite pair of shoes and in the summer when you sweat more, spraying a little dry shampoo will prevent them from smelling and leave them smelling fresh and looking clean.
It has happened to us all and we have all got sun burnt. A great hack for soothing the sun-burnt skin is placing some aloe vera gel in some ice cube trays and freezing them. After they have froze place them on the skin where you have got burnt and gentle move around. It soothes the skin and helps reduce the redness and the soreness as the sun has dried your skin out. These aloe vera cubes bring moisture back to skin so its not so tight and painful.
This one is for all of you that love to self tan. Personally I never do and don’t like it so luckily I tan easy! However, it happens! When self tanning it goes wrong and gets places you don’t want. In this instance, baking soda will be your best friend! Baking soda removes any fake tan where you don’t want it or where it has gone wrong allowing you to do it again.Simply mix with a little water and rub over the area you wish to remove and there you have it.
Hair care is so important in the summer! Everyone knows how much the sun dries your hair out. To avoid this Avocado will be your savior. Seriously putting a bit of avocado onto your hair will help lock in moisture and shine and prevent your hair from drying out in the sun. Also if you don’t want your hair to fade in the sun, apply a small amount of Vinegar mixed with a little water, before going out and that will help ensure the sun doesn’t fade your hair. If however though, you want to create the effect of highlights I have a cheaper alternative than going to salon and paying so much for them. Simply take a bit of lemon juice and water and mix together and then apply to your hair before going out in the sun and this will create a lovely, subtle highlight look.
I hope you have all enjoyed reading about a few summer beauty hacks to make enjoying the sun a little easier and a little more enjoyable. Be sure to let me know how you get on if you try any of these hacks out and I will see you in the next one!
