The Power of Self-care

Hello everyone!

Today I really want to speak about the importance and power self-care. The past couple of months for me, have been rather difficult and stressful, which have consisted of many changes. I have found myself changing a lot in these past couple months but I will save that for a separate blog post, however, I have really realised over these past couple of months the importance of taking care of yourself and your own health and how sometimes you have to be a little selfish and do what is best for you.  For me, I found this really challenging because I am one of those people who likes to put everyone else first and I like to make everyone happy so this has been a challenge for me. At first I did feel guilty and bad but now I feel so much better within myself and happier as a person. It was hard to take the steps but now I feel like I am in control and really taking care of myself.

When I talk about self-care, I am referring to those everyday actions that we make on a daily basis to look after our bodies and minds.  I know when you are going through a challenging time and feeling like the whole world is against you that is so hard to keep going and keep doing the things which may only seem like small things so you think skipping them won’t make a difference, but in reality they do. When I was at my lowest over these past couple of months I really didn’t feel like doing a lot at all and really didn’t feel like I wanted to make an effort but I soon realised that wasn’t helping and was in fact making me feel so much worse about myself.

Even though you may not feel like it, always make an effort with yourself and what you wear etc because it actually makes a huge difference. I really noticed on the days where I didn’t do my makeup or wear the clothes I liked that I felt so less confident and motivated. It made me feel worse about myself. One important thing I have learnt is that no matter how bad you are feeling, always get up, dress up and show up. It honestly does make the world of difference. When I had done my makeup and got dresses into clothes I loved and felt comfortable in felt 10 times more confident and therefore a lot happier within myself.  How you chose to dress and present yourself really does say more about you than you realise and trust me dressing up and putting that bit of makeup on will make you feel better. Don’t get me wrong, I am definitely one for lazy and chilled days and no makeup days and just relaxing in some comfy shorts and a top but for me I really want to start making an effort more often because it does help.

Over the past couple of months I have been doing a tonne of research into self-care and into simple changes which can help keep your brain and mind healthier and make you happier and so I am going to share with you a few other tips other than just making an effort everyday which I have really found have really started to change my life.

  • The first thing I have started to do is writing in a journal/diary.  If you know me, you know that I find sleeping for the most part incredibly difficult and I am a very light sleeper so I do struggle with sleeping. I will quite often end up waking myself up and thus I don’t ever really get a good quality night’s sleep even if I do sleep for the correct amount of time. I have really found that writing in a journal has really helped me this. It has allowed me to write down all my worries, concerns, feelings, thoughts, memories, tasks, reminders, goals etc. I have found this so helpful and this has really helped me to destress and relax at night because I have everything in my journal I know I am not going to forget anything. Also, I just find the process of writing therapeutic anyway and so this has really helped me.
  • The second thing I have been doing is reading. I am an avid reader anyway so finding time to read more was just so exciting for me. I love reading and escaping reality for a while and joining another world. It makes everything so simple and peaceful and I have really enjoyed this.  Reading has really helped to relax my mind and my body and I really have felt more at home myself with a lot more peaceful.
  • The next few things I have been doing have been to look after my skin. First I have gotten into a proper skincare routine and have been properly cleaning my skin and using face masks which really helps to purify your skin and keep your pores clear etc. I have also been making an effort to moisturise. If you know me you know I am the worst at this even though I have really dry skin. I am just too lazy and hate it but I have recently been making an effort and it has made the biggest difference to my skin. My skin feels so much better and is a lot clearer and it looking a lot healthier. Similarly, I have been drinking plenty of water and have started trying to eat better. I don’t diet because I don’t believe them. I do make sure I eat a balanced diet and still enjoy to eat pizza and chocolate etc. However, limiting the fatty food really does help to clear your skin and really does help keep your skin clear and healthy.  Eating right does make a huge difference not only to your skin but how your body feels and towards your energy levels.
  • The last thing I will mention post is that I have really just been trying so hard to let go and worry less and be selfish. I have recently removed so many toxic people from my life and removed so many friendships and relationships with people which has been so incredibly hard. It has however, in the end made me a much happier person and I really do feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I did feel really guilty to start off with and terrible for admitting that but I have got use to it and I have noticed a difference in my mood. I have started to worry less and care less about things. If isn’t going to matter, don’t stress over it. Worrying and stressing doesn’t help and only makes you feel worse. It is hard but as soon as you are able to let go of your problems and not carry them around with you every second of the day you can go out, live in the moment and enjoy yourself.

I hope this has started to help some of you who are perhaps feeling like I am at the moment. It does get better and time does help whether you believe it or not eventually everything will work out the way it is meant to. Everything happens for a reason so don’t stress it too much. Believe in yourself and have faith in your ability and your love and that will be enough, I promise you that. These difficult times are made to build us up and strengthen us and your attitude throughout the worst times in your life says more about you than you will ever realise. People do love you and do care for you and it is okay to struggle and having a difficult time. It is okay to be sad and angry or frustrated. It is okay to have a bad day and feel low. It is okay to be worried about your insecurities. It is OKAY!! You have a choice. You can live trying to met everyone else’s expectation and therefore failing or you can choose to ignore everyone and love yourself and do what makes you happy and live the life you deserve because even in your darkest of days life is still what you make it and you still have to make the most of the situation. Try and see the positives and be optimistic. Don’t hold grudges and don’t hold onto past hurt. Forgive and let go. Don’t keep that anger inside of you. Take time to care for yourself and do whatever you need to love and care for your body the way you do. You are so lucky to have the body you do and we all have insecurities and we always want to change something but it is important to appreciate your body and mind and take care of them. It really make the biggest difference and changed your life and lifestyle.

Stay strong everyone and stay true to who you are! Let me know if you want any other posts similar to this with me explaining on how I cope and deal with certain situations or if you have comments then feel free to leave them below. Much love,

Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief Review

Today I thought I would review the Clinique Moisture Surge moisturiser. Since purchasing this in Florida I have been obsessed and have been using this every single day! It quickly became an essential of mine. I cannot believe how good it is!

First thing I want to point out is the price. This moisturiser is £34 for 50ml. I know this is on the more expensive but I think it is worth all the money you pay.  I suffer with dry skin as most of you will know if you have been reading my blog for a while but this has seriously helped my skin so much.

This mosituriser is beautiful gel/cream formula which is really light on the skin. It is easy to apply and absorbs into the skin really well. It leaves your skin feeling smooth and soft as well as hydrated.  I would definitely recommend this moisturiser is if you have really dry skin or if you suffer from acne, eczema or dermatitis because my friend suffers from those and it work so well on her skin and she does have to be very careful about what products she uses. It reduces redness and does help to clear up the skin. Even though I don’t suffer from those conditions, luckily, I notice that using the product really does to help keep my skin clear from spots and does make my skin appear really healthy and glowy.

It doesn’t irritate my skin, which is great since I do have rather sensitive skin. Unlike most other moisturisers it absorbs into the skin so well and doesn’t leave the skin appearing oily or greasy which I really like.  Also, a huge plus for me is how quickly it absorbs into the skin. I hate having to wait ages for my moisturiser to absorb into my skin but I don’t have any issues with this with the product.

Upon application I definitely feel like my skin feels healthy and that I look more awake. I feel like it does a very good job of wakening my skin up and not making me feel looks as tired as I perhaps feel. I especially like applying this under my eyes because I think it does help diminish my dark circles.

I highly recommend this product. It is easily the best moisturiser I have used. No matter what the weather or what season your skin always needs some TLC and this product just adds that little extra moisture boost that your skin needs and to give you a really healthy and radiant complexion and glow.  Ever since my first use of the product I noticed what a huge difference it made to my skin and loved it, thus have continued to use it every day since.

I would definitely recommending giving this product try if you haven’t already.  It is definitely an essential for me and one that I know I am going to be loving for while. It is going to take something very special to beat this product. I understand it is quite expensive but you get what you pay for. The quality of the product is definitely there and the results are visible and for me unbeatable.

It is just a mini haul of little essentials that I needed or that I had been wanting to try out for a while so I hope you enjoy!

Pro Voke Touch of Silver shampoo and conditioner. As you know I got my hair highlighted at the beginning of December and so I have brought these because they are supposed to protect your hair and the colour of your hair too!
bty
Colgate Max White Luminous toothpaste. I just needed some new toothpaste and wanted to give this one a try. It is supposed to make you teeth whiter all round so I will wait and see if it does!

I normally wash my hair 2/3 times a week depending on how busy I am and fortunately I am lucky in the fact that my hair isn’t greasy so I can leave it that long without washing it. However, I do always like to spritz a little dry shampoo into my hair for added volume and texture. I got this one because it matched the shampoo and conditioner so I thought it would work well.

Skincare Q&A

Hello!

Welcome back to my blog. Today I have a little skincare Q&A, so I hope you enjoy reading about what I use and do on a daily basis to take care of my skin and any products that I would recommend using. If you have any more questions still about skincare or my skincare routine then feel free to leave a comment and I will get back to you! Into the questions…

  • How many times do you wash your face daily? – I believe I wash my face twice. Once in the morning when I wake up and then also again in the evening when I go in the shower (yes I am a night shower person).
  • What skin type do you have? (dry, oily or combination) – My skin is pretty normal to be perfectly honest. In the winter months it can get more dry than usual but for the most part I would say I have normal skin.
  • What is your current facial wash? – I am currently using the Nivea daily essentials gentle cream wash and I LOVE it. It’s great! Really soft and gentle on the skin and leaves it feeling really smooth and cleansed. Would definitely recommend. Also, a little side note, another face wash I highly recommend is the Neutrogena Visibly Clear Gentle Exfoliating wash. I love this product to and would recommend trying this out also. Both work really well and I switch between them all the time.
  • Do you exfoliate? – Yes, I do. Probably not as much as I should do but I do exfoliate from time to time. I know it is important and my skin always feels so much better after I have exfoliated and removed all the dead skin cells, it’s just not one of my favourite parts of my skincare routine!
  • What brand do you use? – For my body I use Soap and Glory because they do the most incredible exfoliators which smelly incredible and leave your skin feeling amazing and for my face I just use my trusty Neutrogena which I have just mentioned.
  • What moisturiser do you use? – I use the Simple Kind to Skin hydrating moisturiser and I just get along with it really well. I think it does help that I use the Simple cleanser and toner to go with the moisturises but either way I do the moisturiser and it leaves me skin hydrated and smooth so no complaints. Really great budget friendly moisturiser too. In fact all the products I have mentioned are great alternatives to the higher end skin products out on the market.
  • Do you have freckles? – Yes, I do. I have a few and I quite like them.
  • Do you use eye cream? – No. I am only young and I know it’s perhaps never too early to use eye cream and help prevent ageing or dark circles etc. but I don’t feel the need too and using a little bit of highlighting concealer under my eyes removes any dark circles.
  • Do you or did you have acne prone skin? – Not particularly. My skin is really quite good to be honest. Of course I get spots occasionally, most frequently on my forehead or my chin but I am lucky I don’t suffer from acne prone skin and thankful.

That’s everything for this mini skincare Q&A. Please feel free to let me know if you have nay other questions that you would like to answer and I will try my best to answer them for you. I hope you have enjoyed and thank you so very much for reading and I will see you shortly!

Beauty Haul

Hey guys!

How are you all doing today? The weather has been gorgeous recently here in the UK and I have definitely been loving my time outdoors in the sun. This means I have been going out a lot more and making the most of the nice weather. I have recently been on a shopping trip and just purchased a few items which I am going to share with you today. I am going to show you the beauty products I purchased but I did get a few fashion items and room decor things too so let me know if you want to them in another haul too, but for now I will just show you the beauty products.

nivea edit

First thing I picked up was this cream face wash by Nivea. I believe I have mentioned this in a previous blog post because I have already used this and I am in love! I LOVE it. It smells amazing, it feels amazing on the skin and is really soft and gentle and best of all it leaves your skin looking great! I think it may have over took my ever so favourite Neutrogena face wash which I have used everyday for as I can remember!

wipes edit

Next thing I picked up are some Nivea face wipes. I got two packs: one for normal skin and one for sensitive. My skin is normal so I can just use those but sometimes I prefer the sensitive ones if I am wearing a lot of eye makeup so I picked both up and look forward to using them. I do only use face wipes to take my makeup off when travelling or if I have been super busy and not got time to do a full skincare routine because it’s late.

dry shampoo edit

A while back, most of you will remember that I mentioned I had brought some Aussie dry shampoo, however,I unfortunately, have not gotten along with this product too well. The texture and the feel of your hair after use is something which I just don’t particularly like. The thing I do like about it is the insane amount of volume it leaves in your hair. For this reason I have decided to revert back to the Batiste dry shampoo and so brought a new can ready for travelling and use when I can’t be bothered to wash my hair, because lets face it we sometimes just cannot be bothered to wash our hair when it needs doing but this solves all our problems.

lee stafford edit

Another thing I purchased was some Lee Stafford heat protection spray. I don’t usually use one and yes I know it’s terrible for your hair. I am just lazy haha. Plus I don’t really apply heat to my hair that often. Anyway, I decided I needed to take better care of my hair and so purchased this spray to use before applying any heat.

shine spray edit

Speaking of hair products I purchased a Herbal Essences shine spray.Basically when I purchased this I was just intrigued with the product and if it makes my hair looks shiny then that’s a bonus because I always find my hair looks healthier when it shines more. So I am excited to give this try and see if it makes my hair appear more shiny.

concealer edit

I was in desperate ned of a concealer and my shade in the Collection concealer was out of stock so I went into another shop and saw this W7 one. If any of your know the brand W7 you know it is really inexpensive, however, the other products I have tried by them and have worked fine. Therefore,I opted for one of their concealers and I got a brightening one as well as one which actually matches my skin tone so I am excited to use these and see how they last and apply and will definitely update you incase any of you are interested in buying them since they only cost like £1.99.

foundation edit

If you have been reading for a while now you will know I avoid foundation for everyday wear, however, I still needed one for those special occasions or date nights haha. I had heard good reviews about this Rimmel foundation and many people have raved about this so I thought I would give it a try. I have yet to use it but when I do I will be sure to let you know what I think. I am very keen to formulate my own opinions on this product and the price is very reasonable so fingers crossed it’s as good as all the reviews I have heard.

falsie edit

Last beauty product I purchased was some more Elegant Touch nails. You all know how obsessed I am with these and how much I rave about them so I have just bought a pack ready to put on before I go to London so I don’t have to worry about doing my nails!

That’s all the beauty products I have purchased! I really hope you have enjoyed this post and thank you so much for reading. Let me know in the products if you have tried any of the things I have purchased and your opinions too. Also, let me know if you want to see a fashion and homeware haul and I will be sure to do that for you! Thank you so very much and I will see you very soon!

Summer Beauty Hacks

Hi everyone!

With the summer months underway (well supposed to be-still not sen any real signs of summer in the UK yet) I thought I would share with you a few beauty hacks to make your summer a little less stressful and a bit more enjoyable.

My first hack is really trivial and simple but we all sometimes forget about it. To prevent your mascara, bottom and top lashes, from smudging every where, wear water proof mascara. It is really that simple and easy and your lashes will maintain looking great throughout the whole day!

My next one is for those of you who want an alternative to foundation and feel that it just feels too heavy on your skin for the summer months. I personally don’t have this problem because as I mentioned in my everyday makeup routine, I only wear foundation on very special occasions so my routine doesn’t change too much in the summer.  However, for those of you do where foundation swap it for either a BB or CC cream. These will do the same job, be very moisturising for your skin which is what you need, particularly in the summer months, and provide coverage. They also have SPF in too which is essential in summer. Alternatively to that just use your concealer and powder as your base makeup.

My next hack is a DIY salt spray. Everybody wants those perfect beachy waves that makes them look like they have been to the beach, and yes of course I know you can buy one but there is no need when you can make one at home with things you probably already have! All you need is some warm water, salt, hair gel and a spray bottle. Then just mix all these together in your spray bottle and shake thoroughly, spray on your hair and scrunch it with your hand and you’re good to go with beautiful beachy waves.

Everyone’s bug bear in the summer are flies. You always feel like you cannot wear shorts or skirts because of been bitten to death.Of course you can spray yourself with bug repellent, however, if you don’t have any of that you can use your dryer sheets and rub them all over you and your clothes and they prevent flies from coming near you. That way you can go out and wear shorts without being bitten a million times. Also dryer sheets  can also remove all of that unwanted static in your hair too. Again simply rub these over your head and you’re good to go.

I guess this one isn’t really a hack but it is an essential. Drinking plenty of water throughout the summer months, especially, is vitally important to keeping hydrated and your skin looking radiant and healthy. (In that case I guess it is a beauty hack!) Instead of drinking just plain water trying slicing up a lemon or cucumber and add that to your water. Not only does it taste amazing it has great benefits for your body too! They boost your immune system, are a great source of potassium and the antioxidants helps reduce blemishes. The list goes on really!

Another summer essential is dry shampoo. No only does it revitalize your dull second/third day hair it can also be sprayed into your favourite pair of shoes and in the summer when you sweat more, spraying a little dry shampoo will prevent them from smelling and leave them smelling fresh and looking clean.

It has happened to us all and we have all got sun burnt. A great hack for soothing the sun-burnt skin is placing some aloe vera gel in some ice cube trays and freezing them. After they have froze place them on the skin where you have got burnt and gentle move around. It soothes the skin and helps reduce the redness and the soreness as the sun has dried  your skin  out. These aloe vera cubes bring moisture back to skin so its not so tight and painful.

This one is for all of you that love to self tan. Personally I never do and don’t like it so luckily I tan easy! However, it happens! When self tanning it goes wrong and gets places you don’t want. In this instance, baking soda will be your best friend! Baking soda removes any fake tan where you don’t want it or where it has gone wrong allowing you to do it again.Simply mix with a little water and rub over the area you wish to remove and there you have it.

Hair care is so important in the summer! Everyone knows how much the sun dries your hair out. To avoid this Avocado will be your savior. Seriously putting a bit of avocado onto your hair will help lock in moisture and shine and prevent your hair from drying out in the sun. Also if you don’t want your hair to fade in the sun, apply a small amount of Vinegar mixed with a little water, before going out and that will help ensure the sun doesn’t fade your hair. If however though, you want to create the effect of highlights I have a cheaper alternative than going to salon and paying so much for them. Simply take a bit of lemon juice and water and mix together and then apply to your hair before going out in the sun and this will create a lovely, subtle highlight look.

I hope you have all enjoyed reading about a few summer beauty hacks to make enjoying the sun a little easier and a little more enjoyable. Be sure to let me know how you get on if you try any of these hacks out and I will see you in the next one!

Hi guys,

Today I am sharing with you my everyday skin care routine and the products I have been using recently to help maintain my skin looking fresh and healthy as well as feeling smooth and soft.

When I wake up in the morning, I will wash my face using the Simple cleanser, toner  and mosituriser . To apply the cleanser and toner I will take a small cotton pad and apply each one to a cotton pad and then distribute evenly across my face, starting with the cleanser and following it with the toner. After that I will apply a small pump of moisturiser to the palm of my hand and rub in evenly all over my skin.  In the evening I repeat these steps using the cleanser and toner to remove any makeup I have worn throughout day before I hop into the shower. When I have been in the shower, after my skin has dried off I will then apply the moisturiser before bed. I love these products and they work brilliantly at hydrating my skin and removing my makeup. They do struggle to remove waterproof mascara if I ever wear that and in that case I just use the cleanser all over my face and use my Ester Lauder eye makeup remover to remove any eye makeup. They are certainly suitable products especially for dry and sensitive skin and quite inexpensive, so definitely worth a try.

Day to day I use the products as described but when I go on vacation or stay over night at places I tend to use makeup wipes. I don’t like using them daily and prefer to cleanse and tone when I have time but these makeup wipes consist of tea tree and are really inexpensive at 50 pence a pack from Wilko. They remove your makeup so well and I was super impressed with the quality of them especially for the price and the tea tree definitely helps clear out your pores and prevent breakouts.  I do find these to be a really good option when I am busy or on vacation but would suggest a proper cleanse and tone everyday when possible.

The next product I have been loving is the Neutrogena gentle exfoliating face wash. I am very careful when it comes to skin products, especially face washes, since I do have sensitive skin. I would highly recommend this product if you, like me, have sensitive skin. It is very gentle on the skin and works AMAZING! I love how clean and clear my skin feels after use and have been loving how clear my skin has been this past month since I have started using it. I apply a small amount to the palm of hand, whilst in the shower, and gently rub into the skin and then rinse off with some warm water. I love how gentle this product is which means I can use it daily and I love the difference it has made to my skin and my confidence as a result of this. Would definitely recommend trying this product.

For my body I have being using the soap and Glory Body washes.I have two: one is clean girls, soft and creamy body wash and the other is orangeasm body wash. I adore both of them. They both smell absolutely INCREDIBLE! Honestly, this smell so good and they also leave your body feeling soft and moisturised which helps you, especially if you are bit like me and lazy when it comes to moisturising haha! I definitely am! I always “forget” to moisturise and so I love how soft and clean my skin feels after use. Also once or twice a week I will use the Soap and Glory Foamy Fruity body scrub to exfoliate my skin and remove any dead skin. Again this product smells so good and leaves your skin feeling incredibly smooth. What I really like about this scrub is the fact it isn’t harsh on the skin like most scrubs and is gentle enough to use on sensitive skin which really helps me. I would definitely recommend all of these products. One thing I must say is that they are at the higher price end but are definitely worth the money you pay for them. However, if you’re after something a little more budget friendly I find the Nivea Cashmere Moments to be very similar to these and very moisturising but a lot more affordable.

In the rare occasion I do moisturise my body, I have recently been using the Jack Wills Hope Cove moisturiser. I love the smell of this moisturiser and it has a lovely fresh scent to it which isn’t too overpowering.  It does leave you skin feeling really smooth and soft but again is quite pricey when I am sure there are alternatives to this which provide just as good results but are more affordable. I just happened to receive this in a gift set at Christmas and although I like it and love scent I am undecided about whether I would repurchase. I do think there are better moisturises out there on the market to try out.

The last skin product I have been using is the Ted Baker hand and nail cream. For me personally I get along really well with this type of hand cream as it is fast drying and doesn’t leave your hands feeling sticky or oily or like you have applied product which can be the case with some hand creams. Again I am in love with the scent of this product and also love how moisturised my hands feel and how soft they feel. Would I recommend this product? Yes I would recommend it, especially as I love the consistency which I find hard to find in hand creams. Unfortunately though, I do have to say this product is quite pricey.

I hope you have all enjoyed finding out about my skin care routine and what products I use on a daily basis to help keep my skin revitalized, healthy and smooth. I do believe looking after your skin is so so so important and having a consistence skin routine certainly  helps maintain your skin from feeling dry and looking dull. Another little thing I would like to mention is that I make sure I drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep me and my skin hydrated and this has made an unbelievable difference, at least for me, to my skin and my overall health.

I’ll see you in the next one. Love,

Lizzie X
