Why you should always dress your best…

Hello everyone!!

Today I am going to be doing a slightly different post and talking about clothes and why it is important to dress your best. I know I haven’t done a fashion style post in the longest time, so I thought it was about time that I did one again and dressing well and presenting yourself the best way possible has actually been a topic that I have researched a lot recently and spoken to people about, after having a quite recent realisation myself and a very important subsequent lesson.

The first reason as to why you should dress your best is because of human nature and social conditioning we are all guilty are passing judgements on people based on what they are wearing. I don’t mean we judge people for what style of clothes they wear because I think diversity, variety and uniqueness is amazing and it would be so boring if we all dressed the same and wore the same style. I mean we subconsciously pass judgement on someone based on how well they appear to have taken care of themselves and thus already have this assumption of what a person is like. For example if someone is wearing clean clothes without stains and has washed, wearing deodorant they are presented much better than someone who isn’t wearing clean clothes and hasn’t washed and thus we would naturally trust and notice the person better presented. Basically, the better you present yourself and take care of your skin, body and personal hygiene creates a better impression and message for those around you. It also shows that you put effort into how you look and take care and pride in how you look and want others to perceive you.

Secondly, dressing your best everyday will honestly change your mood so much and will make you feel so much confident.  This is something I have learnt over the past couple of weeks. When you are struggling and having a difficult time, you don’t feel like getting up, spending time getting ready doing your hair and makeup. You just want to stay in your pyjamas and lie in bed but you really shouldn’t. It is so hard and I struggled with this recently so I do know how people feel but altering your mindset and telling yourself in the morning that you are going to get up and you are going to your makeup and you are going to put on your favourite outfit is honestly such a game changer.  It will change your entire mood and your day. If you get up and dress in your favourite clothes and do your makeup you won’t want to lie in bed and be miserable all day. You will feel so much more confident and want to go out and be productive. How you dress yourself and present yourself really does change your entire mood, mindset and confidence and it is important to get up, dress up and show up even when you feel a bit low.  You will feel so much better for it.  Just a little side note, that’s not to say that if you are spending the day inside and want to have something comfy on then wearing some jogging bottoms and comfy top but change out of your pyjamas, do your hair, do your skincare routine and put on some comfy clothes that fit well and make you feel confident.

Dressing your best is one of the best ways for you to express yourself and make yourself feel great. As I mentioned earlier, everyone is unique and has their own style and dressing in what you like and makes you confident is such a great way to express your personality and style. Dressing how you like and in what makes you feel confident and comfortable will change how people see you and will be a reflection of how you want people to perceive you and making the right impressions is very important as we all know.

If you are a creative person then getting up every morning and designing an outfit that you love and gives off the right impression will boost your creativity. If you want to dress your best and showcase a style that is really you, you will put time and effort into creating the perfect outfits everyday and will use your creative influences to do so.

I definitely use to be one of those people who would save their favourite items of clothing or outfits for special occasions and wouldn’t wear them otherwise. Now I don’t because I want to feel great and special everyday, not just a few times a year.  If you love your clothes and your wardrobe and you want to wear them and feel happy and excited to wear them, then wear them. You don’t have to have a reason to dress up and wear your special items. Everyday should be a special day and everyday you should feel excited to get dressed and wear an outfit that makes you feel happy.

Lastly you should always dress your best because it is fun!!!

Thank you so much for reading and I really hoped you have enjoyed!! Leave a comment telling me what your favourite outfit is that makes you feel great and I will see you very soon! Much love,

Lizzie X

Starting uni…

Welcome back everyone! How are you all doing? I hope you are having a great day/evening and things are going well. A while back I mentioned starting a university series and at last I am finally getting around to starting it. I am so sorry it has taken forever for me to start the series but I have just been so busy with things. The past month as all just being about settling in and getting used to the university lifestyle and I finally feel now I am starting to get into a routine with everything! I did plan to blog more on the weekends but I have been super busy at work and also studying and reading for assignments so I am sorry about that too! However, I am now finally getting around to it and I am so excited to be sharing me experiences with you and how I am finding uni life!

First thing, for any of you who doesn’t know, I am studying History at the University of Leicester UK. Since I was fortunate to receive and unconditional offer, meaning I didn’t need any requirements to get into the university or onto my course, I can’t really tell you much about the UCAS programme on results day and how that all works. Unfortunately I am not 100% sure on what happens but I do know if you log on to your UCAS track it tells you whether the university you have firmed has accepted you before you even pick up your results in most cases but that’s about as far as my knowledge goes on that. Unfortunately I cannot help with clearing or results day anymore than that. Sorry!

I obviously did go through all the stages of applying and filling out my application form, as well as writing my personal statement so if any of you are applying to university this year or apprenticeships or even jobs let me know if you would like any tips of how I did mine and what I wrote about and I will make a blog post about that because I know how daunting it is having to write about yourself in a word limit, selling yourself and trying to select all your best abilities and attributes! It’s not easy and it is, at the end of the day, what they judge you on and make their decision based on. The only other thing to say is that once you have submitted your application then it is literally just waiting for your offers to come back through before you make a decision on where you would like to go and firm and also your insurance uni incase things don’t quite go according to plan, which I hope they do for you!

After those stages it is all about applying for Student Finance if that’s something you need (I definitely did!) and looking for accommodation if you are thinking about moving away from home. Student Finance is a great loan and support system and don’t worry about the money and paying it back, it’s not all as scary as it seems and at the end of the day you are investing in your future! In terms of accommodation, look early and apply as early as possible! Again I was lucky in the respect that when I knew where I wanted to go that I could book my accommodation straight away because my place at univeristy wasn’t subject to my A-Levels grade. This meant I could confirm my accommodation straight away and know where I was living. The only difference if you don;t recieve an unconditional is that you get a provisional offer for accommodation which then will change depending on whether you get in on results day. Basically they allocate you a space at accommodation based on your preferences which will get confirmed after your results have come through so don’t panic that you won;t have anywhere because you will!

So today I thought I would just briefly explain the whole applying procedure and a few things to think about but if you have nay questions on anything I have said then feel free to ask or you what a more detailed post on something specific then also let me know! I have a few more post planned such as what to take, what to expect, what moving day is like, freshers experience, settling into courses and lots of stuff like that but if you have any other posts you would like to see them let me know and I will do them too. Hopefully they should start to become more regular again as things are settling down now. Also let me know if you want to see a room tour because I have been thinking about filming one. So let me know if that is something you are interested in me doing and I will film that too. I was also thinking about filming a Uni Q&A as well to answer questions about uni because I know how scary it can be and daunting so leave me any questions you have for that and I will do that too.

Thank you all so much for reading and for being really patient with me whilst me schedule has been all over the place. I hope to hear from you all soon with any suggestions or questions you have and I will see you all very soon for the next post in this mini series! Bye guys!

Simple, everyday eye makeup!

Hello everyone!

How are you all doing? I am so sorry I haven’t posted in a couple of days. I received some bad news and just decided that I needed some time to try and sort out what was happening. So I am sorry about that and hopefully you all understand. Anyway, I am back today with a little eye makeup tutorial for a simple, fresh everyday look. The look is really natural and so would be perfect for everyday wear, for school or for work. Let me know what you think in the comments and lets begin!

First I want to say I did use high end products for the look I am going to show you, however, I have got some drugstore which create this look exactly the same and work just as well so I will leave those alternatives throughout the look to for you too.

Of course the first thing I did was prime my eyes with the Urban Decay eyeshadow primer potion. Alternatively (which I do a lot to to be honest) is just take some of your concealer and powder and apply it all over your lid and then that can act as your base.

Then I used the Naked 3 palette by Urban Decay and blended the shade Nooner into my crease. I then added the shade “Dust” all across my lid. I blended these two products together and kept adding each of the shades until I reached the desired intensity. It really is that easy, quick and simple to do. Perfect for those mornings where you want to wear a it more makeup but your a rush.  Alternatively I have the W7 In The Buff Lightly Toasted palette which is a great dupe for the Naked 3 palette. I think I have mentioned this before. If you use the shade “Lady Luck” in your crease and then “Wonderland” all over your lid you can create the same look.

The next thing I did was apply a thin line of the Collection 24 felt liner in black really close to my lash line to give some appearance of thicker, fuller lashes. I then curled my eyelashes and apply a coat of the Benefit They’re Real Mascara. You all know how much I love this product and it works really well with my lashes. A drugstore alternative this is the Maybelline Lash sensational mascara which I love also or the L’Oreal Faux cils mascara which you all know I do rave about! Any of these would work just all welland create the perfect look.

That’s everything for this quick and simple everyday eye makeup look. I love this look and it is definitely one of my go to looks to create and wear. I think it’s very elegant and easy to wear and definitely looks like you have made a lot of effort with your makeup without taking the time to get ready. If you are rushed you can even miss the eyeliner stage out and this look still looks amazing!

I really hope you have enjoyed and like this makeup look. Thank you so very much for reading and I will see you very soon!

Everyday makeup

Hi Everyone,

Today I thought I would share the products that I have been using for the past couple of months and love using to create a natural everyday makeup look. Most of the products selected here are drugstore and inexpensive items, however, there are a few higher end makeup products I use but I do know good drugstore alternatives for those of you who are perhaps just starting out with makeup.

First thing to say about my everyday makeup is that I don’t wear any type of foundation. This is purely because I do not like how foundation feels and sits on my skin. I definitely need to branch out and try different foundations but for everyday makeup I will skip foundation and only wear it for special occasions. I have also tried BB creams in place of foundations but have yet to find one which I get along with and feels nice on my skin.

For general concealer I use the Collection Lasting Perfection in the shade Cool Medium 2. This concealer is super inexpensive and provides great coverage at hiding those blemishes and troublesome areas.  For highlighting concealer I use the Rimmel Hide the Blemish in the shade 002 Sand. I love using this concealer for highlighting because it definitely brightens my eye under circles and makes me look more awake and lifts my eyes.

For bronzer I use the Collection Bronze Glow matt. I don’t tend to get along very well with shimmery bronzers so always tend to lean towards a matt bronzer. Again this bronzer is super inexpensive and provides a natural glow which looks like you have a nice tan.

For powder I use the Rimmel Stay Matte in 001 Transparent. I love this powder and it does a great job at ensuring my makeup stays in place all day especially in my t-zone and under my eyes which is where, if my makeup is going to smudge, it will smudge first. The powder is nice and light and doesn’t give you a really powered look, which with my skin can definitely be the case. I would definitely recommend this product, again really inexpensive and amazing at the job it does and very comparable to some higher end powders.

For contour and highlight I use the Collection Contour Kit Highlight and Sculpt. I was pleasantly surprised with this kit. This contour kit provides a natural glow to highlight the high-points of you face and the contour shade which would suit all skin types and does a good job of defining your face shape. One criticism I have with this product is it takes a lot of blending out and is at time quite difficult to blend but for the money you definitely cannot complain.

For eye makeup I always start with priming with eyelids. There is some really good eye primers on the market but recently, because I have run out, I have been using a bit of the Rimmel Hide the Blemish concealer along with some powder to act as my primer. This trick does work and is a good little hack for those of you beginning to experiment with makeup but not sure yet about splurging on an eye primer.

For eye shadow I have been reaching for the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette. The pay-off quality and intensity of the eye shadows are AMAZING and super easy to blend! All the palettes by urban decay provide a lovely mix of matt and shimmery colours which can be used to create a nice natural look or be intensified to create an evening look. I would definitely recommend buying this product as it well worth the money you pay for it. Alternatively, the W7 In the Buff: Lightly Toasted palette is a good dupe for the naked 3. Due to price difference the quality and intensity is not to the same standard of the naked 3 palette and is at times harder to blend the shades out to create that seamless gradient but is definitely achievable and for the price this a great alternative to naked 3 palette especially for beginners who are just starting to experiment with eye makeup.

For eyeliner I have been using the Collection Extreme 24 hour Felt- Tip eyeliner. I was very impressed with this eyeliner. It is very inexpensive and lasts all day without smudging. It’s definitely not the easiest to apply but for the price I cannot complain.

For me, mascara makes the biggest difference and a huge difference at completing the eye makeup. For everyday use I reach for the Benefit They’re real. In my opinion, this mascara is amazing and provides a tonne of volume and length. If you don’t like clumpy mascaras though I would avoid this one and perhaps opt for the alternative I am going to talk about. The L’Oreal Faux Cils Architecte mascara I actually love. I didn’t think I was going to when I was purchasing but it gives the same overall look as the benefit mascara does but due to the wand shape and size is far less clumpy. Both of these mascaras I love and both do an amazing job at providing volume and length to the lashes and would recommend both.

My lip colour changes day to day depending on what eye shadow look I have gone. However, to complete my everyday makeup look I will switch between two products and reach for either the Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick in the shade 42 or the NYX liquid lipstick in the shade Milan.First let me say how impressed I am with both these products. Both are very long lasting and moisturising and are very well priced. The lipstick is a more of a brown nude toned whilst the NYX is definitely more pink toned and brighter. Both complete an everyday look nicely and I would recommend looking into these products.

I hope you have all enjoyed reading about the products I use everyday to create my everyday makeup look. If you are interested in any of the products I have mentioned I will leave links to them all below and I will see you in the next one!
