Uni Motivation

Hello lovelies!

Today I just wanted to write a post about university motivation because after surviving first year, with probably half my time spent procrastinating, I know it can be quite difficult to get motivated and dedicated to your studies. I know at a few points during last year I felt like everything was too much. Several deadlines the same day or during exam periods, it seemed like the workload was impossible and that there were always a hundred different things that I wanted to do or felt I should be doing instead.  Hopefully this post will help you to stay motivated and keep on your top of your work as well.

  • The first thing I think is essential and that I need to keep me organised is a calendar. I don’t know how people manage to stay organised without them. I have an academic year one, so I can plan events for the whole year and write down any assignments that are due or appointments I have for the entire year as or when I get them. I also put in all my work rotas, so I know what shifts I have at work and it keeps everything so organised.
  • In addition to a year planner, I also have a weekly one where I can break down my weeks and set myself mini goals, to-do lists and deadlines, so I keep on track of everything every week. On my weekly planner I will also schedule my gym sessions and I write down my meals because that just really helps me manage my time. I think planners are such an essential piece of stationary to keep you organised and focused and for me it really helps being able to visualise my deadlines and reduces stress because I am not worried about forgetting anything.
  • The next thing I know is key to me staying motivated and organised is printing off the key module documents. At the start of every semester, for each module I am taking, I will print of the module overview and handbook. I find this so helpful because then I can highlight all the key information (assignment deadlines, key readings, seminar readings etc.) and then I can refer to this when writing assignment or completing tasks. Having a physical copy is so helpful in motivating me to meet deadlines and schedule my work effectively.

  • Another thing I like to do is pin up my key documents, deadlines, notes, appointments etc. on my noticeboard because it helps me keep track of everything. I think post-it notes are such a great way to write down quick reminders, so you don’t forget anything.
  • Obviously at uni, you need to be dedicated to your studies, but I think it is so important to focus on yourself or on other activities. Doing too much of one thing does sometimes become tedious and thus you can lack motivation. I love going to the gym for one hour, three times a week. It helps focus my attention away from work, relieve stress and it mentally boosts me and makes me feel good. Another way I like to divert my attention from work for a while is to bake or cook because I find it really fun. Work is important, but it is not everything and I really do think it so important to have a hobby as well to keep you motivated and give you a fresh perspective.
  • Lastly, it is SO important to take time out for yourself and to relax and watch some Netflix or socialise. You really need to try and get a good work/life balance otherwise you just won’t be able to focus your attention or energy on writing assignments. Take time every day to focus on yourself and your mind. Have a pamper evening or watch Netflix etc. you need to relax and rest.

Thank you so much for reading and I hope you have enjoyed this post and found it useful or reassuring in some way. University is challenging but with the right time management things will be okay. Leave me a comment letting me know your study tips or your university survival guide because we can never have too many life hacks! Until next time! Much love,

This is such a useful post for students!! I definitely agree that being organised and knowing when deadlines are help to avoid letting everything jus build up and become too much to a point where it’s really hard to find motivation to get started.

Yes I agree! If you leave everything until the last minute you feel like you are frowning in work and thus don’t know where to start which makes it so hard to motivate yourself! Glad you enjoyed the post! 😊
